September 23, 2016:
Like many Americans, I've viewed the unrest in our communities that has been on the news recently and have been both frustrated and upset. I wondered, what could I do to help ease some of this tension? Being a photographer, I decided the best thing for me was to make a positive contribution to the national conversation by creating images that tell a story. And thus was born my personal photo project titled, "See Me in a Different Light."
This project endeavors to show its viewers how one's perspective of an individual can be changed simply by the light in which we view that individual -- both literally and figuratively. In short, it will be a series of environmental portraits of African Americans -- primarily young men -- that are designed to open the viewers' minds in a positive manner.
I'm seeking individuals who want to contribute to this project by sitting for a portrait session. No modeling experience is required! There is no compensation except that you will help deliver a powerful, visual and positive message about African-Americans to all viewers. It is my hope the completed project will be shared through social media and garner attention nationwide.
I've created a special website just for this photo project. For more information, please visit www.adifferentlight.org.
If you, or someone you know, would like to participate, please send an email to [email protected] or call 443-326-2050.
