Discounted Private Sessions for Mini-Session Customers

Mini-sessions can be a good way to get a studio image or two of your pup at a very reasonable price. But, to be honest, they can be stressful for even the best trained pup and often don't result in the best possible images of your dog. Out of necessity, at a mini-session we have to rush dogs through the process and they have very little time to get acclimated to the lights. And these photo shoots often take place in a location that is completely foreign to them. Lastly, not all dogs like the vinyl surface we are asking them to stand on. All in all, it's not an ideal situation.
Our primary means of photographing pups is through a much more relaxed private session. These sessions are commonly outdoors, in a location that means something to you and/or your pup. During these sessions we start by getting your pup comfortable -- with us, with the camera, and with the lighting. With regard to the latter, we start with the lights facing AWAY from them and reward them every time they flash, thus building a positive association with the sound and light coming from the lights. We then slowly rotate the lights around, continuing the positive association process with the lights getting directed towards them more-and-more. Note, too, that the studio lights (yes, I use the same studio lights even when outdoors, on location) are less invasive outdoors because the difference between the light generated by the studio lights and the natural ambient light is less than when we are in a studio environment. The process of getting the dog comfortable, alone, often takes as long as an entire mini-session. Only after your pup is comfortable do we begin photographing them.
The shoot can take place anywhere where we have access. For example, we can shoot hunting dogs in fields or the woods to place a dog in it's natural environment.
Or position them in a place that has special meaning to your family...
Or surround them with natural colors that make for beautiful images...
And just because we're not in a studio doesn't mean we can't capture wonderful close-ups...
One of my favorite uses of studio lighting outdoors is the ability to get sunrise or sunset images like this one...
Lastly, just because we're shooting with studio lights, I'll use them in combination with the natural light to create beautiful, natural-looking images...
In a single private session (usually 1-1/2 to 2 hours long) we will create many outstanding images. Often clients decide the best way to enjoy them all is to get an album produced. like this one:
